4 Home Remedies That Prevent Age Spots

With the passage of time, the dermis changes its tone and small brown circles appear, especially on the face and hands. Age spots can be unsightly, but they are normal and quite common.

If you want to get rid of them, there are several home remedies that can help you. We present them to you in this article.

Age spots

The changes that occur in the body as we get older are undeniable. Among them we can mention the “solar lentigos” also known simply as “age spots”. It is one of the most common signs of aging but that appear much earlier: at 40 years of age they are already present.

These spots are larger than freckles, dark in color and flat and develop mostly on:

  • The back of the hands
  • Forehead
  • The arms
  • Face
  • The upper part of the chest.

While it doesn’t have serious health consequences, many people want to avoid or eliminate them for cosmetic reasons.

Cause of age spots

Although humans need to be in contact with ultraviolet rays to manufacture vitamin D, the truth is that its excess can damage the dermis. Excessive sun exposure is precisely the main cause of spots on the skin.

Spending many hours outdoors, especially in summer, damages the superficial layers of the skin and accelerates the degenerative process.

Another trigger for skin blemishes is photosensitizing substances (present, for example, in some perfumes), which cause an allergic reaction when in contact with sunlight. There are also people more prone to lentigos due to genetic predisposition.

How to prevent age spots

Age spots

Many women (and some men) worry about spots on their hands or face when they have already appeared.

However, early prevention of this problem is very important. From the age of 30 or 35, it is recommended to change some habits to reduce the appearance of those unsightly brown marks :

1. Do not expose yourself too much to the sun

It is very important to protect yourself from UV rays to avoid skin damage. When the sun is very intense (for example, at noon, in summer) it generates slight burns in the dermis that later turn into spots.

2. Use protection factor

On hot and sunny days it is recommended to use a cream with at least 30 protection factor. Blockers and protectors for children can also be very helpful if we have too white or sensitive skin.

3. Wear suitable clothing

In addition to not going out between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. in summer, it is also advisable to wear clothes that cover the whitest areas of the skin (for example, the back).

4. Eat fruits and vegetables

Learn to eat

Food is essential to keep us healthy inside and out.

  • We recommend that you consume a lot of natural fruit juices, salads, soups, gazpacho and all the recipes that you can think of that include raw and seasonal vegetables.

Home remedies

If the first marks have appeared in the dermis due to exposure to the sun or the passage of the years, do not be discouraged. There are different natural recipes that can reduce them:

1. Chickpea mask

It is a very widespread remedy and, although there is no scientific evidence to support it, chickpeas are rich in antioxidants that are known to be good for the skin. This mask is easy to prepare and the ingredients are available anywhere. We recommend using canned chickpeas so you don’t have to cook them for hours.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup of cooked chickpeas (150 g)
  • ¼ cup of water (62 ml)

Preparation

  1. In a container, place the chickpeas, previously washed.
  2. Add the water little by little, while you crush with a mortar.
  3. When a uniform paste remains, apply on the stains (the area must be clean and dry).
  4. Allow 20 minutes for it to dry thoroughly.
  5. Do not rinse: let the dry paste “fall” on its own.
  6. Repeat this treatment every night.

2. Lemon juice

The high level of acid penetrates the layers of the skin and removes blemishes. This remedy should be applied at night to avoid the opposite effect : lemon stains in contact with the sun. It is perfect for when the first marquitas appear.

  • It is as simple as cutting a lemon in half and rubbing it on the skin after bathing.
  • After a few minutes rinse with lukewarm water.
  • If you don’t have lemons, you can try red onions, which offer the same results.

3. Dandelion

This plant is very effective in removing age spots. Do not hesitate to have it at home. The treatment is very simple:

  1. Open a dandelion stalk horizontally to extract the liquid inside.
  2. Rub it on the marks up to three times a day. Do not rinse.
  3. You can do the same with the gel inside the aloe vera stalk (another of the plants that cannot be missing at home).

4. Apple cider vinegar

You will surely have this ingredient in your kitchen. It has effects similar to those of lemon, due to its acid level.

  • If you mix it with your usual hand cream (2 parts cream and 1 part vinegar), you will achieve an incredible home remedy to remove age spots.

If you have age spots on your skin, don’t despair. Consult with a dermatologist to discover the best treatments to reduce them and avoid the possible appearance of more marks.
