Bacon And Cheese Bread

Bread is possibly one of the most famous and important bakery products in the world. It is part of the regular diet of many people and is also consumed in large quantities in different regions of the world. Although it seems novel, bacon and cheese bread has been with us since the time of the Romans, who used it to feed their legions during the expansion campaigns of the empire. It is characterized by having an intense flavor and smell, being an exquisite surprise for everyone in your family.

Ingredients

  • 400 g of strength flour.
  • 200 g of water.
  • 130 g of cheese.
  • 120 g of bacon in strips.
  • 20 g of pressed yeast (one cube).
  • 50 g of olive oil.
  • ½ tablespoon of salt.

Preparation of the dough for the bacon and cheese bread

This preparation is very simple. It differs slightly from traditional bread making so if you have experience making bread this will be a breeze for you. If you don’t have it, don’t worry: just follow the instructions exactly. You will find that the bacon and cheese bread is really delicious.

  • The first thing you should do is cut up the cheese.
  • Dice for easier shredding and place in a food processor or blender for 5 seconds at medium speed.
  • When it is well shredded, remove the cheese and reserve it together with the bacon strips, which you must cut into medium pieces.
  • In a deep saucepan, heat the water until it starts to smoke.
  • When it’s hot, dissolve the yeast in it.
  • Control the water temperature so that it does not exceed 37 ° C.
  • Sift the flour together with the salt and put them in a deep bowl.
  • Proceed to gradually incorporate the oil, the yeast water, the cheese and the bacon.
  • Do this slowly, until you can form a compact dough, which is not runny. This must be moldable.
  • Knead until the dough is even and smooth.
  • When it has the right texture,  form a ball and leave it to ferment in the covered bowl for at least thirty minutes.

Preparing the oven and baking

  • After that time, preheat the oven to 200 ° C and knead again vigorously, for at least five minutes.
  • Take a loaf pan and flour it.
  • Then put the dough in the mold  and shape it into a long loaf.
  • Make some cuts to the exposed part of the dough and, using a kitchen brush, paint the surface with a little milk.
  • Put the mold in the oven and let it cook for at least 25 minutes or until the bread is golden on top.
  • When it’s ready, take it out of the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes in the pan. Then remove the mold and let it cool completely on a rack.

When it is completely cold you can serve the bacon and cheese bread accompanied by a drink. In case you need to save some slices, we advise you to toast them a little with olive oil and salt, as this will make them better preserved.

Additional tips

  • You do not have to grind the ingredients in the food processor. You can do this by hand.
  • Just take care that these are well crushed, or chopped in case you use a knife. This will greatly facilitate the process of cooking and integration of the elements.
  • If the dough is too runny, add a little flour.
  • If, on the contrary, it has lumps that have not been incorporated, add a little water.
  • We suggest that you do not unmold immediately because this will cause the bread to deform.
