Home Remedies For Chapped Lips
Cold, sun or lack of moisture are just some of the main enemies of lips, whose skin is too sensitive. This area of the face is prone to damage, since it does not have melanin (the pigment that protects the skin). Do you have chapped lips? Do not miss this article.
We tell you which are the best home remedies for chapped lips. You can use them at any time of the year!
How to treat chapped lips?
In addition to the weather, there are other habits that chap the lips, such as biting them, tearing off dead skin, or constantly licking them.
If you are suffering from this problem (which is not only aesthetic, since bacteria can accumulate between the cracks), we recommend the following home remedies:
1. Olive oil
Olive oil has many properties that can be very beneficial in moisturizing the skin. For it:
- Soak a little olive oil on a cotton ball and rub your lips. Don’t rinse and resist the urge to lick it off.
- Place every night before sleeping and after three days you will see results.
2. Shea butter
Surely you have heard of this butter that comes in a stick and is used like any lipstick. It is bought in stores and is very practical.
At any time of the day you can apply it on chapped lips (we recommend, for example, when you go out or after eating).
You can also make a homemade cream and use it at home.
Ingredients
- ½ tablespoon of shea butter (6 g)
- ½ tablespoon of avocado pulp (7 g)
Preparation
- Put the shea butter in a saucepan and melt in a double boiler.
- Remove the pulp from the avocado and mix with the melted butter.
- Transfer to a container with a lid and allow to cool completely.
- The result will be a thick, oily cream. Apply it on your lips several times each day.
3. Honey
With hydrating and antiseptic properties, honey is an excellent beauty treatment to leave lips beautiful and without cracks.
You can put a little on the affected area and let it act for about 15 minutes, or you can make an ointment.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon of virgin beeswax (15 g)
- 1 teaspoon of almond oil (5 g)
Preparation
- Put the wax in a container and melt in a water bath.
- Mix with the oil and wait for it to cool (it takes about an hour to solidify).
- Apply to lips before sleeping and repeat when you wake up.
4. Sugar
Sugar is a good exfoliator, but you should use it carefully and only if your lips are not bleeding or too dry.
You can simply put a few grains of sugar on your lips and make circular movements or form a more effective homemade scrub.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon of sugar (10 g)
- 1 tablespoon of oil (olive or almond) (16 g)
Preparation
- Put the sugar on a plate and pour in the oil.
- Mix well to form a grainy paste. You can add more of one or the other ingredient until you achieve the desired consistency.
- Apply to chapped lips with gentle massages and rinse with warm water. To finish, apply a moisturizer or shea butter.
5. Milk
Cold milk is used to reduce inflammation and redness of the skin, for example, when we get sunburned. And it’s a great chapped lip balm!
All you have to do is use fresh milk from the fridge and apply on the affected area. You can do the same with Greek or plain yogurt. You will feel the relief immediately.
6. Aloe vera
Of course, this plant could not be missing when we are talking about skin problems.
Aloe vera has many properties to promote wound healing, reduce swelling, avoid dry skin, etc.
On the lips it works wonders:
- Simply cut a stalk or aloe leaf, open it in half and remove the gel.
- Add a good amount and let it absorb.
6. Potatoes
Did you know that the water in potatoes is used to moisturize the skin and heal wounds? Thus, it is perfect for when you have sore lips.
You can cut a potato into slices and apply on the lips, or make a kind of mask along with other elements.
Ingredients
- 1 potato
- 1 tablespoon of almond (or olive) oil (16 g)
- 1 tablespoon of milk (10 ml)
Preparation
- Peel the potato, cut into cubes and cook with a little water until tender.
- Strain and mix it with the milk and oil.
- Make a smooth but consistent puree.
- Wait for it to cool and smear on the lips.
- Let it act for 30 minutes before removing with lukewarm water.
7. Tomato
Its properties make it an excellent home remedy for the skin. For example, it is used in burns due to the large amount of water it contains.
Cut a cold tomato into slices (leave it in the fridge for two hours) and apply to the lips. It will be a wonderful relief.
8. Vaseline
In addition to brightening and moisturizing your lips, Vaseline will protect delicate skin from the sun, cold or wind.
Every time you go out, do not hesitate to smear your lips with a good amount of this viscous substance.
With these home remedies, your chapped lips will regain their health and beauty!
